Shakeology: Priority Over Price

Chocolate, VEGAN Tropical Strawberry & Greenberry Shakeology

“Michelle, I would love to try Shakeology, but I’m sorry. I just can’t afford it.”

Whenever someone tells me this, I want to apologize to them.

Not because I think they’re poor.

Not because I won’t get commission.

But because I haven’t done a good enough job helping them realize the importance of Shakeology.

The truth is, we all operate within a budget. Sure, some of us have a little more flexibility to spend than others, but we all make decisions on how we will spend our money based on our priorities.

I recently read an article in Time Magazine that highlighted what the average American spends annually in a few categories. Here are a few highlights:

Coffee: $1,092
Lunch: $2,000
Pets: $1,183
Soft drinks: $850

To a person who hates animals, it may seem absurd to spend almost $1200 on a pet. But I don’t see $1,200 when I look at my sweet puppy (And if you have a pet, I’m sure you don’t either!)

A person who thinks Starbucks is overpriced may scoff at dropping over a grand on coffee. But to the woman who meets with her prayer group at Starbucks every morning before work, she wouldn’t trade that $1,000 for anything.

And the business man who drops $2,000 a year by taking clients to lunch? That’s nothing to him compared to the income those meals bring in by helping him maintaining great relationships with his clients.

See my point?

If it’s important to us, we’ll find a way to make it work If not, we’ll make an excuse.

Since breakfast can be done healthy for cheaper, you could substitute Shakeology for lunch or dinner. You could use half a scoop daily. You could split a bag with a friend and drink it every other day.

You DO have options, and you could make it work.

So if you’ve thought about trying Shakeology, but you’ve told yourself it’s too expensive, please take 2 minutes and watch this video.

Hint: You want to watch it all the way through. You’ll be glad you did.

I would love to try shakeology because I’m a huge fan of beachbody fitness and I would love to try their nutrition. I have recently been trying to include more natural foods into my eating and this seems to be the most natural meal replacement option out there. Thanks for promoting and posting the video!

I ask these questions to find real answers:

Why take a food substitute when we could just eat real food?
I noticed that you mention breakfast, lunch and dinner. What about those of us who eat 5–6 meals per day?
I’m all about healthy nutrition and I only eat veggies, fruit, meat, nuts, seeds, and water. Why should I stop eating real food and start drinking shakes?

Good questions, David. To answer your question simply…because of the horrible things we’ve done to the Earth. An apple today has 25% of the nutrition it had 100 years ago because of the deterioration of soil. It’s impossible to get all of the nutrients our bodies need for optimal performance without supplementation. It’s sad, but it’s not enough to just eat whole foods anymore. And as far as meals go, I eat 5–6 times per day too. I use Shakeology for meal 4 or meal 5 most days per week. You could adjust when you drink it accordingly to your needs.

Thanks for the reply! I seriously appreciate it.

I just wish there was more info about it. I looked at TBB’s site, but it’s very vague. I guess I’m just very skeptical about supplements because I really want to know what I’m consuming. I don’t drink milk, eat cheese/dairy, or anything processed, and I’ve been eating “Paleo” (www.thepaleodiet.com) since January. I juice vegetables a lot in order to get tons of nutrients as well. I know exactly what I intake because I can see everything, which I’m comfortable with.

I’m trying to figure out if it would be cheaper to get 30-servings of shakeology for $120 at $4/shake or stick with the whole foods.

I really appreciate your passion for health and your willingness to help people find a better path in life!

And I just found that it has fructose added to it.. :-/

          That’s a killer for me..

          • Michelle Myers February 18, 2012 at 9:59 pm #

I think you’re confusing fructose with high fructose corn syrup. To give Shakeology its great taste and for a balanced, well-rounded macronutrient profile, we’ve used naturally sourced fructose. Fructose is a natural sugar found in fruits and some vegetables. The good thing about fructose—as opposed to sucrose (table sugar) or high-fructose corn syrup (chemically altered sugar)—is that it’s very low on the glycemic index (GI). This means that your body sends it directly to your liver for absorption, which minimizes its impact on insulin and blood sugar levels. The fructose in Shakeology is from non-GMO (not genetically modified) sources and is processed cleanly in GMP-certified (Good Manufacturing Practice) facilities.

I would love to try shakeology because I’m very interested in using it as a meal replacement for myself and my husband, but have never tried it so I am nervous about spending the money without knowing whether or not I will like it. Thanks for sharing more about it in this video!

I would love to try Shakeology because I have heard so many good things about it but very afraid to spend the money without trying it first. I am trying to incorporate eating more healthy and wanting to do so the least expensive way possible. Thank you so much for posting something you are so passionate about, Michelle!

Hey Michelle, you know i’ve been wanting to try shakeology for awhile, I can’t seem to make the cost of it work in our budget. But maybe if I tried it and loved it, I could find some room :) I hope this is random because i’m holding Karis and typing with one hand is hard :) I want shakeology to replace my whole food multi-vitamin… that’s possible right? And we pretty much eat organic, it doesn’t have to be certified for me, but use the same practices. Is that the way shakeology works? Thanks!

Have been itching to try Shakeology! I go back and forth on if we can afford it and the tough part is convincing my husband we do. Thankful to find your blog

Hi Michelle! I’ve followed your blog for a while and I’ve been tempted to try Shakeology.. but like others, I’m still skeptical because of the price. I have a daughter turning 6 months old and I want to try Shakeology to incase my energy to keep up with her, and to help shed these extra pounds I’m still carrying around from pregnancy. I want to be healthier for her and to teach her to be a healthy eater. Babies are little sponges and they mimic and learn from those around them!
